The competition was stiffer than ever last weekend as American Sale hosted the third annual Chicago Bull Burger Battle. Sixteen cooks from Chicago and the surrounding areas gathered to compete for a Bull Grill and a trip to Kissimmee, Fla. to compete in the 2015 World Food Championships.
They say third time’s a charm, and this year, Naresh “Squared” Nair with Team Caliendos took home the gold after competing in his third Bull Burger Battle. Nair cooked up a “Brie, Bacon, and Apple Relish Burger” that landed him in first place with a score of 82.875. He’ll join Team Bull in the World Food Championships this November for his chance to win $100,000.
Daniel Wnek of 5 ¾” Burgers trailed Nair with a score of 82.125, landing him in second place with his “Bahn Mi Burger.” Finally, AJ Hurst with The Vintage Brewing Company from Madison, WI came in third place with his “Sweet Potato Drift Burger.” Hurst scored an 81.75.
In case you missed it, two-time World Burger Champion, Wade Fortin, showed the crowd how to make a champion-style burger during a couple of cooking demonstrations. Staley Da Bear of the Chicago Bears and Tommy Hawk of the Chicago Blackhawks also made appearances at the event. They led dance parties, getting the crowd and competitors riled up for the big competition. Our judges during the event were Mark Nureddine, Ted Brunson, Frank Saverino, Debbie Denato and Mary Frusolone. Huge thanks to everyone who came out and spent their day with us! We’ll see you next year!
